BOATPARK PAVILOSTA

With roots deep in the past

The history of Pavilosta dates back to the period of Duke Jekabs (1642-1682). The harbor was used to export wood, grain and other products to various other harbors in the Baltic and North seas. Trade agreements with Danish merchants were especially prosperous. Harbor’s main activity included ship construction, fishing and commerce. Before World War I Pavilosta housed about 20 seaworthy ships and nearly 100 fishing boats. Port operated three shipyards where fishing boats, small cargo ships and big two-mast sailing ships have been built. Boatbuilding traditions are kept alive till nowadays here.
